CL-150 Mk3 mining laser is a powerful tool for any ring prospector. While expensive, it can be easily retrofitted even to ancient K37-TNTRL and will boost mining output by orders of magnitude. Pilots should be aware of the immense continuous power draw of the device. Turbine and ultracapacitor upgrades may be required to effectively operate Mk3.
Designing a beam weapon proven to be great fun. It operates on completely different mechanics than mass driver. There are no projectiles, no recoil, no mass consumption – just pure focused ray of energy. It required me to refactor out the asteroid damage function to allow more flexibility, but after inserting the actual lights effects surpassed my expectations. This is exactly how I imagined laser to behave. It still needs some gameplay tuning and balancing.
