How big is The Ring anyway?

The ring is enormous. It’s area covers more than 81 times surface area of the earth.

Playfield is a square of 3000x3000km. This seems huge and it is – it would take over 8 hours game time to travel to the other side – yet it is just a small part of The Ring:

The while action takes place in small, outer part of densest A Ring. Player can theoretically take his ship all the way to the Encke Gap, navigating the ring for hours is unlikely. On the other hand, the Keeler Gap should be reachable by a dedicated player – it’s just 260km from usual ring entry position, so it can be safely reached in little more than 40 minutes, even when navigating within the ring.
